FAQS

General Turf Care

These are some of the most frequently asked questions...

Mowing Height

To achieve the best results, we recommend to mow your lawn between 3 and 3.5 inches.  Mowing too short can weaken the grass plant to create a yellow, thin bare appearance.

Bagging

We understand that bagging the lawn has some positives, like keeping dogs paws and kids white shoes from turning green.  But we do NOT recommend bagging at anytime.  Bagging removes essential nutrients from the grass that we are applying during each application.

Is the application pet safe?

We recommend keeping pets off the lawn until dry.  Once the lawn is dry, the turf can be mowed and pets and people are safe to walk on it.

What should I do with vole damage?

I have had LOTS of vole damage when I worked on the golf course.  The best practice is to be patient and DO NOTHING!  Voles eat the top of the grass plant which doesn't kill the roots.  Many times the grass will come back when the soil temperatures warm up.

Why do I continue to get weeds?

Every lawn is different.  It may take a full season to get your weed problem under control.  With proper fertilization to encourage turf growth and broadleaf weed control, the weed population will diminish throughout the season after each application.

How often should I water?

Ideally every other day.  Most cities are requiring odd/even water schedules. Obviously weather plays a role as well. The beauty of an irrigation system is that you can deliver the correct amount of water to each part of the lawn whenever needed.

Why does my lake irrigation system lose prime?

The short answer is air.  Air is an enemy of any lake system pump.  The pump will cavitate (not pressurize) if there is any air in the pump.
